I experienced a disaster caused by the two owners of a European software company who missed their window to sell due to constant delay. I had been in touch with them through our conferences for years.  They finally approached Corum to formally sell them. There was clearly activity in their space, we were getting offers for related companies, and we mutually agreed that the window of opportunity for them to sell was closing up. The sector was consolidation, with bigger players. Even though they understood this, they delayed. We became concerned because it takes time to get buyers engaged, through initial due diligence to make offers.  They just delayed, acting like they had all the time in the world. Finally we went to market. We were able to get several interested parties when the company collapsed and filed bankruptcy due to the increased competition. They missed their window to sell, to realize their dream of wealth. Both entrepreneurs are working for other companies now.
