Surveys can provide information on your customer likes and dislikes, perceptions of competitive products, suggestions for enhancements and new products, etc. You may use high school students for a telephone survey or include a mail survey (with return postage) in another mailing such as a warranty card or invoice. Keep your survey short and simple, using multiple choice or ranking type questions (e.g., On a scale of 1 to 5, with 1 being poor and 5 excellent, how would you rate our customer service?). Surveys are well received by customers because they show that you are professional and care. Note: One side benefit to a questionnaire is that by listing all of your software, you will cause customers to realize that they dont have all the packages you offer. Additionally, you can ask for quotes and referrals. To maintain the quality of the response, you may want to have an outside firm do the survey.
