Valuations out of Silicon Valley arent surprising anymore. After hearing ridiculous Billion Dollar amounts thrown around for the last few months, Ive grown numb. So the latest out: Twitter is now worth $8 Billion.

But a lively topic is revenues and who has them. I expect many new revenue streams to come into existence over the next few years. Lets use Twitter as a case study in process. Twitter is playing around with its ad platform: seeing what works or what causes public outrage, like their iPhone experiment that brought privacy into question. A couple dozen advertisers like Target, HBO and Starbucks are using promotional tweets as a step into social media marketing. Sephoras own projections for response rate among users was blown by 700%! This ad system was started in April 2010 and already has a run rate of over $300 million; obviously not a logical multiple to arrive at a $8 Billion valuation, but theyre on track to create a unique platform.
