I just completed talking with several technology executives that manage middle market ($2.5M to $100M) privately held companies about the impact on business over the past 8-9 months, and whether or not they are seeing any bottoming out of the recession and uptick in business. Some of their remarks are not all that surprising, while others were quite encouraging. For example, one CEO of an IT Services company serving the fortune 1000 stated that business couldnt better, and in fact he saw his business increase over 20% in the past 12 months. Unfortunately, another ITO organization serving the public sector stated a number if their projects were put on hold, not cancelled, but postponed and that they faced more uncertain times and major downsizing decisions. Bottom line: sector focus matters, and it is still months away before they truly see an increase in IT spending habits.
