Consumer goods manufacturers wouldn't dream of doing a full-scale promotional campaign and product release without test marketing first. Unfortunately, most software companies don't test market or do market surveys. The survey should focus on what the prospect wants, who they are considering, price, timing of decision, etc. This method can be used for new markets or a new region you are considering for penetration. Often, these surveys provide valuable leads and solid, competitive data.
