I live in mighty fear that all the universe will be broken into a thousand fragments in the general ruin, that formless chaos will return and vanquish the gods and men, that the earth and sea will be engulfed by the planets wandering in the heavens. Of all the generations, it is we who have been chosen to merit the bitter fate, to be crushed by the falling pieces of the broken sky.

Those lines were written by Seneca in his play Thyestes. Now Im not going to pretend Ive actually read the play and I have no idea what the play is about. I ran across the quote in a science fiction novel I was reading. But, you have to admit it captures the darkest fears we might have as the worlds financial crisis unfolds. I dont think things will get that bad but, I love the sound of the words in my head as I read them and it does make you think how easy it would be to get depressed about the situation and fail to do what you have to do to get through it. After all, crisis always offers opportunity. You just have to figure out how to seize it.
