Turkish Delite
Working in Istanbul this May - a city I’ve been to for business in the past - is reaffirmation of the strength and growth in this bridge market. With centuries of tradition as a geographic link between East and West, Turkey seems to have a natural dexterity of adapting itself to the changing winds... Click here to read more

Expansión
Last week, having just finished our M&A panel FEST UP, Corum was interviewed by Expansión -- Spain’s largest business journal. The article praises Spain’s recent recovery efforts and the tremendous growth in their technology and innovation sectors. Much of this growth has been fueled by a 3-... Click here to read more

FEST-UP
Corum was invited this past week to the 1st annual FEST-UP startup event in Barcelona. The Sponsors, Speakers, and Attendees read as the who’s-who of the Spanish tech and startup ecosystem. Spread over the course of 5-days, this was an event that mixed great seminars and panels, with a b-plan... Click here to read more

El Toro de México
We’re bullish on Mexico, where Corum just closed a successful transaction with our client Inffinix (one of Mexico’s top software firms) who sold to US-based Equifax. We also ran a series of events in Mexico City and Monterrey, and it’s clear to us that the growth we’re seeing from software... Click here to read more

Dubai Silicon Success
On March 12th, I returned from Dubai and Abu Dhabi, where my colleagues and I have been hosting events and meetings with one of Corum’s international legal partners, Dentons. Corum has been building a presence in the UAE since 2004, but I couldn’t believe the number of attendees at the conference…... Click here to read more

Mobile World Congress 2014
No students. No blaring music. No dancers. Just suits & ties. With over 75,000 people in attendance at this year’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, the event would likely be described by companies as the most productive few days of the year. The number of deals and high-level meetings I... Click here to read more

The New Nearshore
The following conversation took place during the coffee break at a recent Corum event in Moscow, hosted by the legal offices of Dentons. The interaction was between myself and the CEO of a large Russian IT Services company (name withheld). While the exact wording may not be 100% accurate, the... Click here to read more

International Business Development
Almost 20 years ago, Corum made a commitment to enter the European market, and we continue to be rewarded for it. We could see that focusing only on North America would make us less able to help our clients find the best deals, and we expanded our operation. Today more than half of our transactions... China’s M&A Begins to Look Outward
There’s no avoiding that China is a key player these days, and Apple’s push into that market with the new iPhone is just another indicator of what we’ve seen coming. Until recently China has not been heavily involved in global tech M&A, but that is starting to change. Looking back, we saw the... Click here to read more

Pay the piper
The patent assault in the mobile space will start to slow. Beyond the obvious notion that Google now (pending approval) has a quiver of defensive mechanisms, I think there is a bigger issue here: Feelings. One of the recurring themes from both Microsoft and Apple regarding their attacks on... Click here to read more

For the most important transaction of his life
During our most recent follow-up calls, I spoke to a Founder/CEO who was pleased to receive our latest valuation report (he is a long-time reader of Corum material), and also informed me that he had recently retained the services of a competing M&A advisor to sell his company.   Of course this... Update to 2011 predictions
In January, one of my 2011 predictions was to see a major mobile OS vendor acquire one of North America's primary wireless carriers. In that prediction, I put a heavy emphasis on Google being that vendor... but now, after what we've seen these past couple weeks, I would love to see Microsoft dive... Click here to read more

Nokia turnaround
I sincerely hope that my kids are reading case studies about Stephen Elop someday. I would love for this to be a true turnaround story for Nokia, as they have been such a monumental figure in the developing mobile world over the past couple decades. Predictions for 2011
Retail/Consumer Payment Solutions will continue to evolve with the broad introduction of NFC (near field communications), SQUARE, and the like -- I don't think either of these will "take off" in 2011, but their presence will become widely known. Cord Cutting / Web TV will find its stride in 2011.... Click here to read more

Starbucks is Genius
A couple months back, SBUX announced that they would be running a US pilot program, testing methods to bring consumer traffic into the retail locations during "non-peak" hours. The method is quite simple really -- serve local beer, local wine, and local organic snack platters from 4pm-11pm. All of... Click here to read more
