Microsoft acquired Caligari
Founded in 1986, Caligari is best-known for developing the trueSpace 3D graphics and animation software. They have always focused on using visual communication in various markets.
Caligari will become part of Microsoft's Virtual Earth division, which is building an immersive 3D Web mapping application. Roman Ormandy, Caligari CEO, has emphasized that his development team and Caligari's community of Beta testers will remain the same.
"I talked to many people at Virtual Earth group and I am convinced that the technical team behind Virtual Earth has a significant, long-term commitment to the 3D Web," wrote Roman Ormandy, CEO of Caligari, on his company’s online forum.
